Nozomi Tanaka is a Japanese middle and long-distance runner born on September 4, 1999, in Ono, Japan. She is the current Japanese record holder in the women's 1000 metres, 1500 metres, 3000 metres, and 5000 metres, establishing herself as the greatest female distance runner in Japanese history.

Tanaka also holds Asian Area indoor records in the 1000 metres, 3000 metres, and 5000 metres. She represented Japan at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in the 5000 metres and competed in both the 1500 metres and 5000 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In November 2024, she signed up for the inaugural season of Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track league.

As the holder of multiple Japanese and Asian records, Tanaka has transformed the landscape of Japanese women's distance running. Her Grand Slam Track signing reflects her status as one of Asia's premier distance runners with global appeal.
