Yuriy Sedykh

Yuriy Sedykh was a track and field athlete born on 11 June 1955 in Novocherkassk, who passed away on 14 September 2021.

He represented the Soviet Union in the hammer throw from 1976 to 1991 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest hammer throwers of all time. Sedykh was a European, World, and Olympic Champion in the hammer throw.

He holds the world record with a throw of 86.74 metres, set in 1986, a mark that has stood for decades and remains one of the longest-standing records in track and field. His record-setting throw is a testament to his extraordinary power and technique, placing him at the pinnacle of his event in athletics history.
