Virgilijus Alekna is a Lithuanian former discus thrower and politician, born on 13 February 1972 in Terpeikiai.

He is one of the most decorated discus throwers in Olympic history, winning medals at three consecutive Olympic Games in 2000, 2004, and 2008, including two gold medals.

After retiring from athletics, Alekna transitioned to politics and was elected to the Lithuanian national parliament, the Seimas, in 2016. His son Mykolas Alekna followed in his footsteps and became the discus world record holder, continuing the family's remarkable legacy in the event.
