Joey Woody is an American track and field athlete born on May 22, 1973, in Iowa City, Iowa. Standing 188 cm and weighing 78 kg, he specialized in the 400 metre hurdles and attended Iowa City High School before competing for the University of Northern Iowa.

Woody was the 1997 NCAA champion in the 400m hurdles and qualified for the World Championships that year after placing third at nationals. He improved to sixth at the 1999 World Championships in Seville. After narrowly missing Olympic qualification in 2000 and 2004, he reached the pinnacle of his career at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, winning silver behind Felix Sanchez.

His World Championship silver medal remains the greatest achievement of his running career. Woody is now the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at the University of Iowa, continuing his involvement in the sport in his hometown.
