Peruth Chemutai

Peruth Chemutai is a Ugandan steeplechase runner, born on July 10, 1999, in the Kapchorwa District.

She made history at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo by winning the gold medal in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase, becoming the first Ugandan woman ever to win an Olympic medal.

Chemutai backed up her Olympic triumph with a silver medal in the same event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She is the Ugandan record holder in both the 3000 metres steeplechase and the 5 kilometres road race.
