Sifan Hassan, born in January 1993 in Ethiopia, is an Ethiopian-Dutch middle- and long-distance runner widely recognized for her unmatched versatility across distances. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she completed an unprecedented triple by winning gold medals in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres along with a bronze in the 1500 metres, becoming the only athlete in Olympic history to medal across a middle-distance event and both long-distance races in a single Games. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she won bronze in the 5000 m and 10,000 m and gold in the marathon, making her the only woman to win Olympic gold in the 5000 m, 10,000 m, and marathon.

At the World Athletics Championships, Hassan won the 1500 m and 10,000 m titles in 2019, becoming the only athlete in history to win both events at a single World Championships or Olympics. She is a three-time World Indoor Championships medallist and earned six European medals, including two cross-country titles. Hassan is a three-time Diamond League winner and won the 2023 London Marathon in her debut at the distance.
