Richard Thompson, nicknamed "Torpedo," is a Trinidadian sprinter born on June 7, 1985, in Port of Spain, who specializes in the 100 metres. His personal best of 9.82 seconds, set in June 2014, stood as the Trinidad and Tobago national record and was among the top ten fastest times ever recorded.

Thompson studied at Louisiana State University, where he broke the NCAA indoor 60 metres record in 2008. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he won silver in the 100 metres with a then-personal best of 9.89 seconds and gold in the 4x100m relay alongside Emmanuel Callender, Keston Bledman, and Marc Burns after Jamaica's disqualification. He added another silver in the 4x100m at the 2012 Olympics.

A five-time Trinidad and Tobago national champion, Thompson also finished sixth in the 100m final at the 2012 Olympics following Tyson Gay's disqualification. His combination of individual excellence and relay success has made him one of the Caribbean's most accomplished sprinters.
