LaMont Smith is a former American sprinter born on December 11, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Standing 188 cm and weighing 73 kg, he specialized in relay events and won an Olympic gold medal in the 4x400 metre relay at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Smith was raised in Willingboro Township, New Jersey, graduating from Willingboro High School, the same school as Carl Lewis. While at Willingboro, he won nine state championships. He attended Blinn College, where he won four NJCAA national titles, before transferring to the University of Houston.

Following his high school teammate Lewis's path, Smith joined the Santa Monica Track Club. He became a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity in 1996, the same year he won his Olympic gold medal. His athletic journey from New Jersey state champion to Olympic medalist reflects dedication to the sport.
