Discus Throw

A lens-shaped disc, 2 kilograms for men and 1 kilogram for women, thrown from a circle 2.5 metres across inside a safety cage. The thrower builds speed with one and a half turns and releases the discus flat and spinning into a 34.92-degree sector. Leaving the circle before the discus lands, or stepping out during the throw, is a foul. Distances are measured to the centimetre below. Wind is not measured, which is a quirk of the rules: a headwind helps the discus fly, and the biggest throws tend to come on windy days at a handful of well-known venues. It is the one throw with no indoor version.
