100 m

The 100 metres is run on the straight, one athlete per lane, from starting blocks wired to the gun. A reaction under 0.100 seconds is ruled a false start and the runner is out. Fully automatic timing records the finish to the hundredth. Wind is measured for the ten seconds after the start: with a tailwind above 2.0 metres per second the time still stands as a result, but it cannot be a record and does not enter the all-time list. Those runs appear as wind-aided. Eight lanes, under ten seconds for the best men, under eleven for the best women, and a title that needs no explanation.
