Lawrence Johnson, nicknamed "LoJo," is an American pole vaulter born on May 7, 1974. Standing 185 cm and weighing 86 kg, he won the Olympic silver medal in 2000 and is the current American indoor record holder at 5.96 metres.

Johnson is one of America's most decorated pole vaulters, with accomplishments including four NCAA titles at the University of Tennessee, seven SEC championships, seven U.S. national titles, and a World Championship gold in 2001. His personal best of 5.98 metres was achieved in 1996. He won silver at the 1997 World Indoor Championships, becoming the first American to medal in the pole vault at a major competition since 1987.

Johnson made history as the first Black pole vaulter to medal at the Olympics, make an Olympic team, and win at a major competition. His trailblazing achievements opened doors for future generations of diverse athletes in the event.
