Djamel Sedjati is an Algerian middle-distance runner born on May 3, 1999, in Tiaret, Algeria. He specializes in the 800 metres and has risen to become one of the fastest men in the history of the event, ranking as the fifth fastest of all time behind David Rudisha, Wilson Kipketer, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, and Marco Arop.
Sedjati's most notable achievement on the global championship stage came at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won the bronze medal in the 800 metres. His position among the all-time greats in the event highlights his exceptional speed and competitive ability over two laps of the track. Representing Algeria, he has brought renewed attention to middle-distance running in North Africa.
As one of only a handful of athletes to have run among the five fastest 800 metres times in history, Sedjati occupies rarefied ground in the sport. Still in his mid-twenties, he has the potential to continue pushing for even faster times and higher championship placings, carrying the hopes of Algerian athletics on the world stage.
