Anisoara Cusmir-Stanciu is a retired Romanian long jumper and Olympic champion, born on June 28, 1962, in Braila. Standing 172 cm and weighing 63 kg, she became one of the most decorated long jumpers of the early 1980s.

Between 1982 and 1983, Cusmir improved the world record in the long jump an extraordinary four times. She won a silver medal at the 1982 European Championships and another silver at the 1983 World Championships before claiming the ultimate prize with the Olympic gold medal at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.

After her Olympic triumph, Cusmir-Stanciu retired from competition and transitioned into coaching at CSA Steaua Bucuresti. She continued her involvement in Romanian athletics at the administrative level, being elected President of the Romanian Athletics Federation in May 2021, ensuring her lasting influence on the sport she once dominated.
