Mykolas Alekna

Mykolas Alekna is a Lithuanian discus thrower born on 28 September 2002 who holds the current men's world record in the event with a throw of 75.56 metres. He comes from an illustrious throwing family, as his father Virgilijus Alekna is a double Olympic discus champion and his brother Martynas is also a discus thrower.

At just 19 years old, Alekna won the silver medal at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the youngest world discus medallist in history. He followed that up by becoming the youngest ever winner in his discipline at the 2022 European Championships, setting the competition record in the process.

In 2021, he claimed both the World Under-20 and European U20 titles, signaling his rapid ascent in the sport from a very early age.
