Matthew Centrowitz Jr. is an American middle-distance runner born on October 18, 1989, in Beltsville, Maryland. Standing 176 cm tall and weighing 65 kg, he won Olympic gold in the 1500 metres at the 2016 Rio Games.

Centrowitz won bronze at the 2011 World Championships and silver at the 2013 World Championships in the 1500m. He is a five-time U.S. national champion in the event. As a high schooler, he won gold at the 2007 Pan American Junior Championships. At Oregon, he was the 2011 NCAA champion.

Inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2021, Centrowitz has competed professionally for Nike since 2011. His Olympic victory made him the first American to win the 1500m since 1908.
