Leonard Byrd is an American sprinter born on March 17, 1975, in Fort Rucker, Alabama. He specialized in the 400 metres, with a personal best of 44.45 seconds set in Belem, Brazil in May 2002, the fastest time that year.
Byrd was an All-American for the UTSA Roadrunners. He originally won gold in the 4x400m relay at the 2001 World Championships with Antonio Pettigrew, Derrick Brew, and Angelo Taylor, but the team was later disqualified when Pettigrew admitted to doping. He reached the 400m semifinals at those championships.
Despite the relay disqualification, his 44.45 second performance demonstrated his world-class ability as a quarter-miler during his competitive career.
