Khalid Khannouchi
Khalid Khannouchi is a Moroccan-born American marathoner born on September 12, 1971, in Meknes, Morocco. He is a former world record holder in the marathon and one of only five men to break the marathon world record more than once.
Khannouchi moved to Brooklyn in 1992 after a dispute with the Moroccan athletics federation and became a U.S. citizen on May 2, 2000. He married American Sandra Inoa in 1996, who served as his coach and agent. He gained prominence by winning the 1997 Chicago Marathon in 2:07.10, breaking Steve Jones's 12-year-old course record by over a minute.
He officially retired on March 27, 2012, citing recurring foot injuries since 2003. His ability to break his own world record places him alongside Jim Peters, Derek Clayton, Eliud Kipchoge, and Haile Gebrselassie as the only marathoners to achieve this feat.
