Vadim Devyatovskiy
Vadim Devyatovsky is a Belarusian former hammer thrower, born in Navapolack. He established himself among the world's elite in the event, achieving a personal best of 84.90 metres in July 2005, which placed him firmly in contention at major international championships.
Devyatovsky finished fourth at the 2004 Athens Olympics and was awarded the 2005 World Championships gold medal after countryman Ivan Tsikhan was stripped of the title due to doping violations. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he won a silver medal that was initially revoked but later reinstated following a successful appeal. These results highlighted both his talent and the turbulent landscape of the hammer throw during that era.
Following his competitive career, Devyatovsky transitioned into coaching. Since 2008, he has served as coach of Estonian hammer thrower Ellina Anissimova, passing on his expertise to the next generation. His career, though marked by controversy surrounding him and his competitors, demonstrated his consistent presence at the highest level of the hammer throw.
