Maurice Greene is an American former sprinter born on July 23, 1974, in Kansas City, Kansas. Standing 176 cm and weighing 80 kg, he was a former 100-metre world record holder at 9.79 seconds and won four Olympic medals and five World Championship titles.

Greene dominated sprinting from 1997 to 2004. His three gold medals at the 1999 World Championships matched a feat previously achieved only by Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson. He was the world record holder in the 60-metre dash for nearly 20 years and remains the joint-fastest man over 50 metres. Over his career, he made 52 sub-10-second runs in the 100 metres, tied with Usain Bolt for third most all-time.

After injuries slowed him from 2001 onwards, Greene won 100-metre bronze and sprint relay silver at the 2004 Olympics before retiring in 2008. He was inducted into the IAAF and has since worked as a television personality and physical education teacher in Arizona.
