Jim Doehring is an American former shot putter born on January 27, 1962, in Santa Barbara, California. Standing 183 cm and weighing 120 kg, he won an Olympic silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Games after overcoming significant adversity.

Doehring was the United States junior champion in 1981 before suffering a severe motorcycle accident. He recovered to make the 1988 Olympic team, finishing eleventh. His career faced controversy when he tested positive for steroids in December 1990 and received a two-year suspension, but was reinstated in March 1992 due to procedural improprieties in the testing process. At the 1992 Olympics, he won silver, helping the U.S. finish first and second in the event for the first time since 1968.

At the 1993 World Indoor Championships, Doehring again won the silver medal in shot put. His career demonstrated both remarkable resilience in returning from injury and the controversies that surrounded anti-doping procedures during that era.
