Galen Rupp is an American long-distance runner born on May 8, 1986, in Portland, Oregon. Standing 180 cm and weighing 62 kg, he is considered one of the greatest American distance runners of all time, holding or having held multiple U.S. records at the high school, collegiate, and senior levels.

Rupp competed at four consecutive Summer Olympics from 2008 to 2021, winning silver in the 10,000 metres in London 2012 and bronze in the marathon in Rio 2016. He competed for the University of Oregon and trained under Alberto Salazar with the Nike Oregon Project. He won the 2017 Chicago Marathon, becoming the first American to do so since Khalid Khannouchi in 2002.

In 2020, Rupp won the U.S. Olympic Trials marathon in Atlanta with 2:09:20, qualifying for his fourth Olympics. At Tokyo 2020, he finished eighth in the marathon. His Olympic medals, American records, and major marathon victory cement his status among American distance running legends.
