Asbel Kiprop is a Kenyan middle-distance runner born on 30 June 1989, specializing in the 1500 metres. He was awarded the Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games after original winner Rashid Ramzi was disqualified for doping, and went on to win three consecutive World Championship titles in 2011, 2013, and 2015.
His personal best of 3:26.69 ranks among the fastest times ever recorded in the event. Kiprop first emerged on the international stage at the 2007 All-Africa Games, where he claimed the 1500 metres title.
He added an African Championships gold in 2010, building on a bronze medal from the 2008 edition. His career was cut short when he failed a doping test in November 2017 and received a four-year ban from competition.
