Discipline overview · Hurdles

110 m hurdles

The men's sprint hurdles. The race is ten metres longer than the women's because the barriers are higher, 1.067 metres, and further apart: 13.72 metres to the first, 9.14 metres between each of the ten, and 14.02 metres from the last to the finish. Touching a hurdle is allowed unless it is deliberate or done with a hand, and a clipped trail leg is a familiar sight in the last three flights. The best hurdlers hold three strides between barriers while running close to sprint speed, which is why a good 100-metre time is almost a prerequisite. A tailwind above 2.0 metres per second makes the time wind-aided, valid as a result but not as a record.
