100 m hurdles

The women's sprint hurdles. Ten barriers, each 0.838 metres high, on a straight course. The first stands 13 metres from the line, the next nine come every 8.5 metres, and 10.5 metres remain after the last. Hitting a hurdle is not a foul unless it is done on purpose or with a hand, but every touch costs speed, so the good ones skim the top with a straight lead leg and a flat trail leg. Nearly every specialist takes three strides between barriers. The wind rule of the flat sprints applies: a tailwind above 2.0 metres per second keeps a time out of the records.
