
Salwa Eid Naser
Salwa Eid Naser, born on 23 May 1998, is a Nigerian-born Bahraini sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. She was the 2019 World champion, clocking the fifth-fastest time in history at 48.14 seconds to become the youngest-ever champion in the event and the first woman representing an Asian nation to win it at a World Championships. At just 19, she had already won the 2017 World 400 m silver medal.
Eid Naser's junior career was equally impressive. She won silver at the 2014 Youth Olympics and gold at the 2015 World Youth Championships in the 400 m. She competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics at age 18, reaching the semi-finals. A two-time Diamond League champion, she was also a multiple medallist at the Asian Games, Asian Championships, and Military World Games, both individually and in relay events.
Eid Naser served a competition ban from June 2021 to February 2023 due to an anti-doping rule violation related to whereabouts failures.
