Lister developed his talents at the University of Arkansas, a powerhouse in collegiate track and field.

Lister achieved notable results throughout his career, including fifth place in the long jump at the 2001 World Indoor Championships. He competed at both the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens Olympics, though he did not reach the finals in either Games. His versatility was evident in his 200 metre time of 20.51 seconds.
