
Gerd Kanter
Gerd Kanter is an Estonian retired discus thrower who was the dominant force in his event during the late 2000s. He won the 2007 World Championship title and claimed the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, adding a bronze at the 2012 London Games. His personal best of 73.38 m is the Estonian record and the fourth best mark of all time.
Kanter made his first Olympic appearance in 2004 and quickly established himself at the top of the sport, winning silver at the 2005 World Championships and finishing runner-up at the 2006 European Championships. He collected further World Championship medals in 2009 (bronze) and 2011 (silver), demonstrating remarkable consistency across nearly a decade of competition.
He won the IAAF Diamond League discus throw title in both 2012 and 2013, capping off a career that placed him among the all-time greats in the discus.
