Sergey Litvinov was a Russian hammer thrower and athletics coach, born on 23 January 1958 and passing away on 19 February 2018.
He was one of the most dominant hammer throwers of the 1980s, winning two World Championship titles in 1983 and 1987. Litvinov competed at two Olympic Games, earning a silver medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and a gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
He missed the 1984 Los Angeles Games due to the Soviet boycott. After retiring from competition, he became a highly respected coach, training elite hammer throwers including Ivan Tsikhan and his own son Sergey.
