Noureddine Morceli is a retired Algerian middle-distance runner, born in Tenes, Algeria. He dominated the 1500 metres throughout the 1990s, establishing himself as one of the finest milers of all time with a rare combination of tactical intelligence and raw speed.

Morceli won the Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games and captured three consecutive World Championship titles in the 1500 metres. He set world records in the 1500 m, the mile, 2000 m, and 3000 metres, and at one point held six world records simultaneously. His palmarès also includes two Goodwill Games mile titles in 1994 and 1998, two Millrose Games mile championships in 1992 and 1993, the 1994 IAAF World Cup 1500 m, and the overall title of the 1994 IAAF Grand Prix series. He was also the Arab champion in the 1500 m in 1988.

Morceli's reign over middle-distance running in the 1990s was virtually unchallenged. His ability to set world records across multiple distances, from 1500 metres to 3000 metres, demonstrated a remarkable versatility. He remains one of the most decorated middle-distance runners in athletics history and a source of immense pride for Algerian sport.
