Johnny Gray is a retired American 800-metre runner born on June 19, 1960, in Los Angeles, California. Standing 191 cm and weighing 75 kg, he was a four-time Olympian from 1984 to 1996 and set the world best in the 600 metres.

Gray set the U.S. 800-metre record of 1:42.60 in 1985 in Koblenz, a time that ranks him as the nineteenth-fastest performer of all time. He finished seventh at the 1984 Olympics, fifth in 1988, and won bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Games. He also set the world 600-metre record of 1:12.81 in 1986 and held the U.S. indoor 800-metre record of 1:45.00 until 2019.

Gray competed at the highest level for over a decade, making four consecutive Olympic teams. His consistency in the 800 metres and his world record in the 600 metres establish him as one of America's greatest middle-distance runners in history.
