John Moffitt is an American long jumper born on December 12, 1980, in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Standing 185 cm and weighing 78 kg, he achieved breakthrough success in 2004 and competed for Louisiana State University.

Moffitt's career peaked in 2004 when he won both the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships in the long jump. He improved his personal best by 45 centimeters that year and capped his breakthrough season by winning the silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing behind fellow American Dwight Phillips.

Despite struggling the following year with a season's best of just 7.96 metres, Moffitt's Olympic silver medal represents a significant achievement in American long jumping. His rapid improvement and Olympic success in 2004 demonstrated his exceptional talent in the horizontal jumps.
