Leigh Smith

Leigh Smith is an American javelin thrower born on August 28, 1981. Standing 198 cm and weighing 102 kg, he qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics as one of only two Americans to meet the Olympic A standard that year.

Smith threw a personal best of 83.74 metres at Athens, Georgia on May 9, 2008, demonstrating world-class ability in the event. His collegiate career at the University of Tennessee saw him earn three-time All-American honors, establishing himself among the nation's elite throwers.

His Olympic qualification represented the peak of his athletic career, placing him among the few American javelin throwers capable of competing at the Olympic level.
