
Walter Dix
Walter Dix is a retired American sprinter born on January 31, 1986, in Coral Springs, Florida. Standing 180 cm and weighing 86 kg, he is the seventh-fastest 200-meter runner in history with a personal best of 19.53 seconds, and has run 9.88 seconds in the 100 meters.
Dix enjoyed extraordinary success at Florida State University, setting an NCAA record of 19.69 seconds in the 200m and completing a 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay sweep at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the first since John Carlos in 1969. His three NCAA 200m titles made him the third most decorated track athlete in NCAA history. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he won bronze medals in both the 100 and 200 meters, becoming the only American track athlete to win two individual medals at those Games.
Dix turned professional in 2008, signing with Nike. He won silver medals in both sprints at the 2011 World Championships and was the 2011 American champion in the 100 and 200 meters. Injuries affected his later career, including missing the 2009 World Championships and the 2012 Olympics after being hurt at the trials.
