Tyree Washington

Tyree Washington is a retired American sprinter born on August 28, 1976, in Riverside, California. Standing 185 cm and weighing 84 kg, he attended La Sierra High School and San Bernardino Valley College before achieving international success in the 400 metres.

Washington's career was affected by doping scandals involving teammates. He was part of the 1998 4x400m team that ran 2:54.20 but had the record nullified when teammates Jerome Young and Antonio Pettigrew were found to have doped. At the 2003 World Championships, he was eventually awarded 400m gold after Young's lifetime ban was applied retroactively.

His last major victory came at the 2006 World Indoor Championships. Washington retired in 2008 after failing to qualify at the U.S. Olympic Trials. His coach during 2003 was Antonio Pettigrew, highlighting the complex relationships in American sprinting during that era.
