Robert Emmiyan is a retired long jumper who represented the Soviet Union and later Armenia during his career. Born in Gyumri, Armenia, he is one of the greatest long jumpers in the history of the sport, ranking fourth on the all-time list with a leap that has endured for decades as a benchmark of excellence.
Emmiyan's personal best of 8.86 metres, achieved in Tsaghkadzor in May 1987, remains the European record. That same year, he was honored with the title of Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in recognition of his exceptional performances. His mark placed him among an elite group of jumpers who have surpassed the 8.80-metre barrier.
Emmiyan's legacy extends beyond his competitive achievements. The Emmiyan Cup, an annual track and field meeting held in Artashat, Armenia, has been staged since 2001 in his honor. His European record, still standing after more than three decades, is a testament to the extraordinary nature of his talent and remains one of the longest-standing records in the long jump.
