Nafissatou Thiam

Nafissatou "Nafi" Thiam, born on 19 August 1994 in Brussels, Belgium, is a Belgian multi-event athlete and the most decorated combined-events competitor in Olympic history. She is the first athlete to win three Olympic gold medals in multi-event competition, claiming the heptathlon title at the 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, and 2024 Paris Games. She is also the only Belgian athlete to successfully defend an Olympic title.

Thiam won gold at the 2017 and 2022 World Championships and silver at the 2019 edition. She also captured European Championship titles in 2018, 2022, and 2024. In 2017, she was voted IAAF World Female Athlete of the Year and became only the fourth woman to break the 7000-point barrier in the heptathlon at the Hypo-Meeting in Gotzis, Austria. She served as Belgium's flag bearer at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony.

In March 2023, Thiam set a pentathlon world record of 5055 points at the European Indoor Championships, becoming the first Belgian woman to hold an official athletics world record. She holds Belgian records in the heptathlon, pentathlon, javelin, and long jump, as well as the world record for the high jump within heptathlon competition.
