
Matthew Hudson-Smith
Matthew Hudson-Smith, born on 26 October 1994 in Wolverhampton, England, is a British sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. He is the fifth-fastest man of all time over the distance, with a personal best of 43.44 seconds set at the 2024 Summer Olympics, which stands as both the British and European record. He is widely considered the greatest British and European 400 m runner in history.
Hudson-Smith has amassed an extraordinary medal collection, including an Olympic silver medal, World Championships silver and bronze medals, two individual European titles, and a Commonwealth silver medal. He has won six British titles and five Diamond League events. In relays, he has earned an Olympic bronze, a World Championships bronze, two European golds, and a Commonwealth Games gold. He also holds the European and British 4 x 400 m relay record of 2:55.83.
With seven medals, Hudson-Smith is the most decorated British male athlete in European Championships history, second overall only to French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre. He holds the top five fastest times ever run by a European athlete in the 400 m.
