David Torrence

David Torrence was a Peruvian-American middle-distance runner born on November 26, 1985, in Okinawa, Japan, who passed away on August 28, 2017. Standing 178 cm and weighing 61 kg, he held the active American indoor record in the 1000 metres.

Raised in Tarzana, California, Torrence graduated from Loyola High School in 2003 before competing for the University of California, Berkeley. He was sponsored by Hoka One One and represented Peru at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

His dual citizenship allowed him to compete for Peru internationally while maintaining his American record-holding status. Torrence's career combined collegiate success at Berkeley with Olympic representation, showcasing his development into an internationally competitive middle-distance runner.
