
Beatrice Chepkoech
Beatrice Chepkoech Sitonik (born July 6, 1991) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. Born in Kericho, Kenya, she holds the world record in the event with a time of 8:44.32, set in 2018 in Monaco, making her the first woman to break both the 8:50 and 8:45 barriers.
Chepkoech won the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships and earned silver at the 2023 World Championships. She also claimed gold at the 2018 African Championships and is a two-time Diamond League champion in the 3000 m steeplechase. Beyond her primary event, she has demonstrated impressive range in the 1500 metres, taking silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 2015 African Games. She has also won two Kenyan national titles.
Chepkoech's groundbreaking world record in Monaco remains one of the most remarkable performances in the history of women's steeplechase running. Her consistency at the highest level, combined with her record-shattering ability, has established her as one of the greatest steeplechasers of all time.
